Setting

"A storyteller persuades by creating scenes, little dramas that occur in a definite time and place, in which real people interact in a way that furthers the aims of the overall story." - Philip Gerard

The setting affects the mood and influences the characters

Its purpose is to help form an adequate image in the readers minds and sets the mood and atmosphere. It makes the inner and outer landscapes as real as possible and makes readers feel as if they've been there.

How do I create a setting?

1. Refer specifically to place and time.

2. Provide clues about the place and time by using details that correspond to certain historical figures.

Atmosphere

The atmosphere is the mood within the setting or the feeling(s) the readers get.
