CREATIVE NON-FICTION

Character

Characters is the element of creative non-fiction where the entire story revolves around. The characters bring life to the story.
There are three types of characters: the antagonist, the flawed protagonist and the bombshell or stock character. The antagonist is the villain, he/she aims to cause problems. The flawed protagonist is the main character, unlike most fiction stories where the main character is always the weak one or the perfect one, the flawed protagonist is not perfect, like most real people they have flaws. The bombshell/stock character is mentioned but he/she doesn't have a significant role within the story.

Characterization

There are two types of characterizations: direct and indirect. A direct characterization does not use the power of secrets , the character is explicitly described without "sugar coating" while an indirect characterization has power of secrets and the characters are portrayed through the characters actions, speech and thoughts, without really saying or describing their personalities.

Aspects of Characterization:
1. Appearance
2. Behavior
3. Interests
4. Way of Speaking

How to create the Characterization of a Character:
1. Think of their personality
2. Describe their appearance and manners
3. What are their thoughts and motivations?
4. What are the reactions of others to the character?
